Journal 2 creating an effective communication strategy

Parents and childcare providers play a key role together in the development of a child. By using a couple of different  communication techniques, together we can help lay a foundation for a child to develop solid language skills.

  • Talk at a child's level
  • ask open ended questions
  • Be patient and show interest

It is important that your childcare business takes the necessary steps to effectively communicate with parents.

1. When enrolling new children encourage the parents to being they children up so they can get introduced and have a feel for the new environment to help both the parent and child with the transition period into the program.
2. Have signs posted around the center  that invite parents to visit your program and observe at any time.  Also have a board created for any news going on in the center or a box for parents to put questions or concerns.
3.  Get the  parents involved in program planning.
  • Ask parents to donate needed items for parties
  • Invite parents to offer field trip ideas
  • Share menu ideas
  • Serve on PTA
  • Share their family cultures and incorporate into your curriculum

My name is Michelle I work for FCCCC in Edmond Oklahoma. I am the lead in the infant room. I found my passion for children the day my first child was born. Since I could not stay home with her I decided on a career change and started working at the center. I soon realized that working with children was what I wanted to do for the rest of my life so I made the decision to enroll at OSU OKC at get my associates and will continue my education at UCO to receive a B.A. in Family and Life. Education is important to me for a couple of reasons. First to show my children the importance of getting their education and it also benefits me in the classroom with the infants. Each semester I have learned something new and it has help to benefit the children in my care. It takes a special person to be in this field and I am glad to be apart of it.
